NASA partner Schneider
Not only on the Earth are
Schneider lenses the perfect equipment for impor-tant missions. The
U.S. space agency NASA has been one of Schneider-Kreuznach's
customers for decades, relying on the reliability and guaranteed top
performance of Schneider products for critical missions in orbit,
ranging from lunar cartography to the current Space Shuttle missions:
Here too the world has been looking through Schneider eyes for a long
time.
The Lunar Orbiter missions
between 1959 and 1976 were captured with Schneider-Kreuznach lens
systems, and astronaut Scott Carpenter took sensational photographs
of the Earth using Schneider Xenaren 2.8/45 mm and 2.8/75 mm lenses.
A standard Xenotar 2.8/80 mm was used for special wide-angle images
of the Moon's surface for the preparation of detailed maps.
In many Space Shuttle missions, NASA uses
high-resolution lens sys-tems from Schneider-Kreuznach. Numerous
flights were documented using film and video cameras with Schneider
lenses such as the Cinegon 1.4/16 mm and 1.4/25 mm or the Xenon
0.95/50 mm. Schneider lens systems also play
a key role in the new
inspection system used by
astronauts for inspecting the outer envelope of the Space Shuttle for
damage in orbit.
